David’s Progress Report

A little background about David, from Dan’s perspective:
(David’s message below)

Another testament that this method works: If you give students progressions that they can grasp and physically experience they will develop new motor-movement patterns. David performs complex movement patterns, and is able to do so from progressive exposure. I have been working with David for 8 months now. Thinking back to the beginning… David had never been exposed to barbells movements, flexibility training, and complex body weight training. Today David squats to depth (arguably my best student) and performs weighted pull-ups, inverted pushups on the rings, and a very long list of other skills. This is the stuff David was most fearful of in the early days (and failed to master in the years past).

I am very proud of Daivd. Why? Because he spends a substantial amount of his free time learning about health and wellness. Today instead of being even more confused David has an understanding and is more comfortable with his own practice. He has confidence approaching others, discussing and sometimes teaching about his experiences with his own training. In short, David feels he has something to offer. I am very happy that now David has an opinion based out of practical experience (not books, magazines, videos, etc.).


A Happier Stronger David!

David’s message:
One of the reasons I came to Minnesota Strength & Conditioning is because I always found it hard to start practicing the stuff I read in the books and fitness magazines (dead-lifts, squats, presses, pull-ups). I was afraid of getting hurt or not using the proper form. I came to Dan wanting one on one instruction. I had came to him never having done these movements.

I remember when I first walked into the gym and I could not understand why there were no mirrors (I still don’t 🙂 )

I would like people to know that one of the things which motivates me to exercise is growing my self-confidence and self-esteem. I am in my 40s, and people say life starts over around this time. I look at my former self in my 20s and don’t like what I see.

I feel it is important for me to workout. When I workout I feel less stressed, especially afterwards. I have stopped smoking cigarettes (a past coping mechanism) and I now find this old habit disgusting. I realized I have never felt disgusted after training. I have a new perspective on how I thought I felt during and after my smoking. Now that I have quit and started exercising I feel much better. I can exercise, relieve stress, and in the process not hurt my body.

My favorite accomplishment since training with Dan is being able to perform squats past parallel. I am very happy about being able to move my body with correct form. As I continue to train I hope to develop a stronger trunk and build more muscle mass. I can see my upper body has changed (gotten stronger). I notice the new lines and a stronger physique. I would like to accomplish the level 2 standards. I would like to increase my flexibility in my hamstrings and quads. I came to Dan with what I thought was a strong base to build upon. As the months have passed my weight has stayed the same and at the same time my strength has increased. I have absolutely noticed a change in muscle mass and posture although my waist (inches) has not changed. I can see the abdominal muscles, but would like to develop the size more.

I believe sleep is the most important key to my success. I think people are more stressed when they do not get enough sleep.

I believe my current routine is sustainable and I can achieve my goals with this method. I am getting affordable training that really works. I enjoy Dan’s personal working relationship, but I am mad he won’t ride his rode bike more often with me. But seriously, at MNSC you are not just a number. They actually care about you as a person and your personal successes.
